Groundwater Monitoring at Hazardous Waste Landfill

For over 6 years Greenstar has been completing long-term monitoring of groundwater, surface water and leachate at this closed landfill located in Niagara Falls, NY. The landfill monitoring program is being conducted under 6 NYCRR Part 360 and is listed as a Class 2 inactive hazardous waste site. The 10 acre parcel was used to landfill lime, ferrochrome silicon, ferromanganese slag, and flue dusts. Contaminants in groundwater include chromium, manganese, and iron.

Greenstar has designed and installed an on-site treatment system for leachate including an engineered wetlands. We have completed a complex groundwater model to design a groundwater diversion remedial strategy for the closed landfill. Greenstar completes all site sampling, generates Annual Reports, interfaces with NY DEC regulators, and provides recommendations for improving the long-term monitoring with emphasis on cost reduction.
